Odisha Cold Wave: Koraput Records 4.8°C, IMD Issues Dense Fog Warning
Odisha is reeling under an intense cold wave as temperatures plummeted across several interior and western districts.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the chilling conditions are expected to persist for at least another week, disrupting daily life and early-morning travel.
On Friday night, Koraput emerged as the coldest location in the state, recording a bone-chilling 4.8°C, the lowest temperature of the season so far.
Other districts also reported sharp drops: Daringbadi at 6.5°C, Jharsuguda at 7.2°C, Phulbani at 7.5°C, Rourkela at 8°C, Nabarangpur at 8.5°C, Sundargarh at 9°C, and Bhawanipatna at 9.8°C.
In contrast, coastal cities remained relatively warmer. Bhubaneswar registered 14.6°C, while Cuttack recorded 12.8°C, offering some respite compared to the freezing interiors.
The IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar has forecast no significant change in night temperatures for the next four days, with a gradual rise expected only afterwards.
Dense fog has further compounded the situation, prompting the IMD to issue a yellow warning for several districts, including Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Khurda, Dhenkanal, and Koraput.
Additional warnings extend to Nayagarh, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, and Khordha, where commuters are advised to exercise caution during early morning hours.
Authorities have urged residents to stay warm, follow official advisories, and remain alert to changing weather conditions.
