Odisha Braces for Week‑Long Heavy Rain as New Low Pressure Approaches

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a fresh spell of heavy rainfall across Odisha as a new low‑pressure system forms over the North Andaman Sea.

The system, expected to intensify and move west‑northwest toward the Odisha–Andhra coast, will bring widespread showers through the week.

After weeks of subdued monsoon activity, Odisha is set to witness thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy downpours beginning September 19.

Yellow warnings have been issued for eastern and southern districts, while orange alerts are in place for western and southwestern regions including Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

The IMD has cautioned that the system may concentrate into a depression, though cyclone development remains uncertain.

Residents in low‑lying and hilly areas have been advised to remain vigilant, and fishermen are urged to check sea conditions before venturing out.
