Mother and Child Crushed as Iron Plates Fall from Truck in Balasore

Balasore, Odisha: A woman and her young son lost their lives in a tragic accident near Simulia police station on April 10, 2026, when heavy iron plates slipped from a goods truck and crushed them.

The victims, part of Bijay Soren’s family from Shyamsundarpur village under Nilgiri police limits, had boarded the truck at Chandikhol while returning from Paradip.

Seven family members were seated in the open rear portion of the vehicle.

The accident occurred when the truck braked suddenly after hitting a road hump on the National Highway.

The stacked iron plates slid violently, fatally injuring the woman and her son. Locals rushed the injured to Simulia Community Health Centre, where doctors declared the two dead on arrival.

The incident highlights the dangers of unsafe travel in goods vehicles and the risks posed by unsecured heavy loads on Odisha’s highways.
