Koraput Police Seize Over 2.2 Tonnes of Ganja; Smugglers Escape

Koraput police achieved a major breakthrough in their anti‑narcotics drive by seizing 2,219 kilograms of ganja worth over Rs 1.10 crore from a forest near Devatiguda village under Padua police station limits.

The operation, conducted late Wednesday night, was based on intelligence inputs and led by Officer‑in‑Charge Ashok Kumar Bisoi and Sub‑Inspector Surendra Sethi.

Smugglers managed to flee after misleading the police team, but the contraband was weighed in front of a Magistrate to confirm its quantity.

A case has been registered, and Sub‑Inspector Deepak Barik is spearheading the investigation to identify and arrest those involved.

Nandapur SDPO Debendra Kumar Mallik hailed the seizure as a significant success, praising the Padua police team for their efforts.

This comes just weeks after a massive haul of ganja oil worth Rs 200 crore in the same region, highlighting the area’s vulnerability to organised drug trafficking networks.
