India Denies Bhutan’s Claim on E20 Petrol Proposal
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has categorically dismissed reports suggesting that Bhutan rejected India’s proposal to import E20 petrol, a blend of 20% ethanol and petrol.
In its official clarification, the ministry stated that no such proposal was ever made by Indian oil marketing companies.
Bhutan’s reported rejection was therefore deemed baseless, with India emphasising that there are no plans to export E20 petrol to the neighbouring country.
The ministry urged stakeholders and the public to rely solely on official communications from the ministry and oil companies, cautioning against misinformation.
This clarification comes amid India’s broader push for ethanol‑blended fuels to reduce carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.
