IMD Warns of Heavy Rain as Depression Hits Jharkhand

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that a depression over north interior Odisha and adjoining south Jharkhand has now shifted northwestwards, centring over south Jharkhand and north interior Odisha.

As of 5:30 am IST on July 6, 2026, the system was located near Chaibasa, Jharkhand—around 70 km southwest of Jamshedpur, 110 km south‑southeast of Ranchi, and 170 km east‑southeast of Jashpurnagar in Chhattisgarh.

The depression is moving northwest at approximately 8 km/h.

According to IMD, the system is expected to continue its northwestward movement over the next 24 hours, bringing widespread rainfall to Jharkhand, northern Odisha, and northern Chhattisgarh.

Moderate to heavy showers are likely across several districts, with isolated areas predicted to receive very heavy rainfall.

Authorities have advised residents in affected regions to remain alert for potential flooding and waterlogging, as the depression intensifies rainfall activity across eastern and central India.
