CM Majhi Launches Rs 1647 Cr Grid Project in Keonjhar
Keonjhar, April 28: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone for a 400/220 kV grid substation at Uchhabali in Keonjhar, a project worth Rs 1647 crore, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das.
The substation is expected to provide uninterrupted electricity to 7.17 lakh consumers across Keonjhar Sadar, Telkoi, Jhumapura, Joda, and Barbil.
Alongside, five new transmission lines were inaugurated to strengthen the state’s power network.
Majhi emphasised his vision to transform Keonjhar into the “second Jamshedpur of eastern India”, leveraging its mineral wealth.
He announced plans for a mega steel plant in collaboration with Japanese firm JFE Steel, which will produce electrical steel to meet industrial demand for the next two decades.
The substation will feature hotline maintenance (repairs without power cuts) and digital monitoring via the State Load Dispatch Centre at Mancheswar.
Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo highlighted that the project will extend electricity supply to Sundargarh, Angul, and Boudh, reaching remote areas by 2028.
Odisha also plans to build 34 new grid substations by 2036, including 765 kV grids in Bhubaneswar, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, and Gajapati.
Majhi reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring Keonjhar’s rightful share in Odisha’s prosperity through industrial growth and infrastructure development.
