BJD alleges BJP failed on jobs and governance in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Odisha of double standards and governance failures.
The opposition party alleged that despite promising 3.5 lakh jobs in its manifesto, the BJP has largely relied on reappointing retired officials instead of creating new employment opportunities.
According to BJD, notifications issued in 2024 and 2026 eased reappointment rules, enabling the rehiring of nearly 800 retired police personnel, 186 civil engineers, and provisions for OAS officers.
The party criticised this move as hypocritical, pointing out that the BJP had earlier opposed similar practices.
On employment, BJD highlighted that of the 39,505 jobs claimed by the government, 33,867 were initiated under the previous BJD regime, leaving only 5,638 appointments credited to the BJP’s two-year tenure.
At this pace, the party argued, it would take more than a century to meet the promised target.
Beyond jobs, BJD accused the BJP government of deteriorating law and order, rising insecurity among women, mounting state debt, and poor governance overall.
The allegations underscore the intensifying political tussle between the two parties since the BJP came to power in Odisha in 2024.
