BDA Demolishes Illegal Encroachments Over Drains in Bhubaneswar, Clears Shops and Puja Mandap
Bhubaneswar, April 25: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) launched a major anti‑encroachment drive in Bhoi Nagar, Unit‑9, demolishing structures built illegally over government drains.
During the operation, officials removed one puja mandap, nine roadside shops, and a temporary cabin, all of which were obstructing drainage channels and contributing to waterlogging during the monsoon.
The drive reclaimed nearly 20 decimal of land, with police deployed to ensure smooth execution.
Authorities have warned that future illegal constructions will face strict legal action, as similar operations are planned across the city.
Residents welcomed the move, urging the BDA to extend the crackdown to other areas such as Sundarpada and Old Town, where drainage encroachments remain a persistent issue.
This initiative forms part of BDA’s broader monsoon preparedness strategy, aimed at reducing urban flooding and improving civic infrastructure in Bhubaneswar.
