Youth Dies After Surgery, Chaos Erupts at Apollo Hospital Rourkela

Rourkela: Tension gripped Apollo Hospital in Rourkela on Thursday after the death of a 24‑year‑old youth, Nitish Avatar of Sheetal Nagar, who had been undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in a bull attack six weeks ago.

Nitish was admitted for surgery, but according to his family, the hospital demanded a fixed deposit amount before proceeding.

Due to financial constraints, the family struggled to arrange the sum, allegedly delaying the treatment.

On Thursday morning, Nitish’s condition deteriorated, and he succumbed during treatment. His grieving relatives accused the hospital of negligence and prioritising financial matters over urgent medical care.

Soon after, chaos broke out as family members, locals, and supporters clashed with hospital security staff. The situation escalated across the premises, forcing police and administrative officials to intervene.

Authorities are expected to investigate the allegations, while the hospital has yet to issue an official statement.

The incident has sparked outrage over healthcare accessibility and raised questions about medical ethics in emergency situations.
