Shubhamitra Murder Case: Deepak Rout in Court, Aparna’s Death Registered as Murder

Bhubaneswar: The sensational murder case of traffic constable Shubhamitra Sahu has taken a dramatic twist with the prime accused, Deepak Rout, appearing before the Athagarh court today.

Police revealed that, alongside Shubhamitra’s killing, the suspicious death of Rout’s first wife, Aparna Priyadarshini, has now been registered as a murder case.

Initially considered accidental, Aparna’s death is now under fresh investigation after her family’s repeated allegations of foul play.

Investigators disclosed that Rout strangled Shubhamitra in September 2025 over disputes involving money and insurance claims.

Her body was later recovered from a Keonjhar forest. Shubhamitra had a Rs 1 crore insurance policy, and police allege Rout buried her to conceal the crime.

In December 2025, police filed a 700‑page chargesheet naming Rout as the prime accused. During further interrogation, shocking details emerged linking Aparna’s death to insurance disputes.

Rout reportedly received nearly Rs 1.25 crore in insurance money after Aparna’s demise, which investigators believe triggered conflicts with Shubhamitra.

Khuntuni police have placed Rout on daily remand and plan to conduct a lie detection test. The Odisha Crime Branch has intensified investigations into both cases, declaring them red‑flag matters.

Aparna’s family has demanded justice and strict punishment for Rout.
