Bhubaneswar & Kataka Told to Aim for No.1 in Swachhata Rankings
Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra has directed Bhubaneswar and Kataka Municipal Corporations to intensify efforts to secure the top position in the national Swachhata rankings.
Mahapatra emphasised a mission‑mode approach to sanitation, drainage management, and urban flood mitigation, urging the use of modern technology, effective monitoring, and citizen participation.
Key measures include mechanised drain cleaning and systematic desilting at least three times annually, deployment of advanced machinery, and installation of flood sensors integrated with the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) for real‑time alerts.
Critical projects such as drainage work near the ISKCON Temple, interventions in Behera Sahi, and integrated road‑cum‑drain infrastructure at vulnerable locations are being expedited.
Technology‑based solutions are also being introduced to tackle recurring garbage accumulation and foul odour, particularly in the Sainik School area.
Mahapatra stressed that the focus must remain on sustainable improvements rather than temporary fixes, with all agencies working in close coordination to ensure timely completion and proactive strategies for prevention, preparedness, and rapid response.
