Odisha Doubles Uniform Allowance for Jail Staff

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a major welfare measure for prison staff, doubling their annual uniform allowance.

The decision will benefit nearly 2,500 personnel across the state’s prison administration, easing the financial burden of maintaining prescribed uniforms.

According to official figures, the revised allowance will cost the state exchequer an additional Rs 96.22 lakh annually.

The hike will be effective from the current financial year.

  • 378 officers ranging from DIG of Prisons to Assistant Matron will now receive Rs 6,000 per year, up from Rs 3,000.
  • 2,122 warders, including women warders, will see their allowance rise from Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000 per year.

The move underscores the government’s commitment to supporting frontline prison staff, who play a crucial role in maintaining discipline and security within correctional facilities.
