Reflective Jackets Boost Safety for Kanwariyas in Odisha
In a bid to ensure the safety of Kanwariyas during the holy month of Shravan, the Commissionerate Police distributed reflective jackets and tapes to devotees.
The initiative aims to enhance visibility at night and reduce road accidents along pilgrimage routes.
Commissioner of Police Dr Suresh Dev Datta Singh reviewed arrangements at the Mahanadi Ghat, where strong barricades have been erected to regulate pilgrim movement.
Eight platoons of police, supported by NDRF and ODRAF teams, have been deployed to manage crowds and respond to emergencies.
Facilities such as washrooms and a 24‑hour control room have been set up, with officials working in three shifts to maintain round‑the‑clock surveillance.
Pilgrims have been urged to walk in single file and avoid blocking roads, while motorists are advised to drive cautiously and refrain from overspeeding.
Reflective jackets were also distributed last year, and authorities noted their effectiveness in preventing accidents.
With these measures, the police aim to ensure that the Kanwar Yatra proceeds peacefully and without incident.
