Odisha Races to Repair Flood-Hit Dams and Embankments

The Odisha Water Resources Department has launched urgent restoration efforts across the state to repair flood-damaged dams, embankments, and irrigation structures.

Vulnerable river systems are under continuous surveillance, with senior engineers deployed to inspect sites and oversee repairs.

Key restoration works are underway at Brahmacharipatna (Kani Right Bank, Jajpur) and Kimiria (Brahmani River).

Embankments along the Daya, Rajua, Makara, Bhargavi, Mahanadi, Kusabhadra, and Devi rivers are being closely monitored in districts including Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, and Jagatsinghpur.

Engineer-in-Chief Dillip Kumar Rout chaired a high-level review meeting to assess flood conditions, Hirakud reservoir operations, and restoration progress.

Field divisions were directed to remain on high alert and ensure rapid response.

Officials also inspected embankments under Khurda Irrigation Division and visited the Kopsingha In-Stream Storage project in Sundargarh.

The restoration drive prioritises public safety, protection of critical water infrastructure, and effective flood management across Odisha.
