President Droupadi Murmu Performs Historic Pindadaan at Nabigaya, Jajpur
President Droupadi Murmu today performed the sacred pindadaan rituals at Nabigaya, located within the Biraja temple complex in Jajpur, Odisha.
Arriving at the temple around 9:50 AM, the President offered prayers, performed rituals, and circumambulated the shrine, marking her first visit to the temple as head of state.
Odisha Governor Dr Haribabu Kambhampati, Panchayati Raj Minister Ravi Narayan Nayak, and senior officials, including the RDC, DIG, Collector, and SP, were present during the ceremony.
Priests and sevayats conducted the rituals with Vedic recitations, while devotees expressed pride at witnessing the country’s first citizen—also Odisha’s daughter—honour this ancient tradition.
Nabigaya is one of the three sacred Gayas in India, alongside Padagaya in Andhra Pradesh and Shirgaya in Bihar.
Hindus believe performing pindadaan here grants liberation to ancestors. Devotees from Odisha, Bengal, and South India regularly visit for rituals and immersion of ashes.
This historic occasion marks the first time an Indian President has visited Nabigaya, adding to the temple’s spiritual and cultural significance.
The rituals coincided with the auspicious Falgun month, Krishna Paksha Dwitiya tithi, further elevating the moment for devotees and priests alike.
