Odisha Orders Urgent Repair of Flood‑Damaged Rural Roads

The Odisha Department of Rural Development has directed immediate restoration of rural roads, bridges, culverts, and cross‑drainage works damaged by recent floods.

Commissioner‑cum‑Secretary Yamini Sarangi, IAS, issued instructions to Engineer‑in‑Chiefs (EIC‑I and EIC‑II) on July 31, 2026, following heavy rainfall that disrupted traffic and caused severe inconvenience in rural areas.

Officials have been asked to:

  • Undertake urgent repairs under codal provisions.
  • Monitor vulnerable stretches and adopt preventive measures.
  • Ensure safety at damaged sites with barricading, warning signs, and diversions.
  • Submit detailed reports with geo‑tagged photographs of damages and restoration progress.

The directive aims to restore connectivity swiftly and minimise hardship for rural residents during the ongoing monsoon season.
