Palaspur Bridge Washes Away After Cyclone Arnab Flooding, Digapahandi-Asika Road Link Severed
The Palaspur Bridge in Odisha’s Ganjam district has collapsed following heavy flooding triggered by Cyclone Arnab, disrupting road connectivity between Digapahandi and Asika and causing major inconvenience to commuters and residents.
According to reports, the bridge located under Sanakhemundi block was washed away after remaining submerged under massive floodwaters for several days.
Although Cyclone Arnab has weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area, its impact continues to be felt across parts of Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
Several low-lying areas remain waterlogged, while floodwaters have affected transportation and daily life in multiple regions.
Officials reported that floodwaters had flowed nearly 15 feet above the Palaspur Bridge for around three days.
Once the water level receded, authorities discovered that the structure had been completely washed away by the force of the current.
The bridge served as a crucial road link between Digapahandi and Asika.
Its collapse has severed connectivity on the route, impacting the movement of people, vehicles, and essential services.
Residents are facing difficulties as authorities assess the damage and explore alternative arrangements.
The incident highlights the extensive damage caused by the heavy rain and flooding associated with Cyclone Arnab, which has left several areas of southern Odisha struggling with the aftermath of the weather event.
