Odisha Weather Alert: Rain May Disrupt Bahuda Yatra as IMD Issues Yellow Warning

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for 20 districts of Odisha, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next two days.

The cyclonic circulation currently affecting the state is expected to intensify showers, raising concerns for the smooth conduct of the Bahuda Yatra in Puri.

Districts including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh are likely to experience heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, 12 districts such as Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Puri, Angul, and Sambalpur have been placed under thunderstorm warning with gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph.

The IMD’s seven‑day forecast suggests light to moderate rainfall across Odisha, with isolated heavy to very heavy showers in northern districts.

With thousands of devotees expected to gather in Puri for the Bahuda Yatra, authorities have urged pilgrims to stay alert, carry rain protection, and follow disaster management advisories.
