Bhubaneswar On High Alert As Durga Immersion Begins Today; 48 Police Platoons Deployed

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital is fully geared up for the grand Durga idol immersion ceremony today, with extensive security arrangements, traffic diversions, and civic infrastructure put in place to ensure a smooth and peaceful conclusion to the festive celebrations.

Authorities have deployed 48 police platoons along with around 100 senior and junior officers across the city to maintain law and order during the immersion processions.

The administration has also imposed a strict ban on DJs and high-decibel sound systems during the event, warning that violators will face legal action and confiscation of equipment.

The immersion procession is scheduled to begin in the afternoon, with major puja committees from Nayapalli, Sahid Nagar, and other prominent localities leading elaborate processions through designated city routes.

To manage the expected surge in traffic and public gatherings, police have implemented special traffic regulations and diversions at several important junctions, including CRP Square, Jaydev Vihar, NALCO Square, KIIT, and Kalarahanga.

Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has established multiple temporary immersion sites and ponds across the city, including locations at Palasuni, Hansapal, Basuaghai, Tankapani Road, Lingipur, Centurion area, Chandaka, and the Kushabhadra river belt.

Special arrangements such as approach roads, JCB machines, tractors, lighting facilities, and support teams have been deployed at immersion points to facilitate the safe disposal of idols and streamline operations.

Officials have appealed to devotees and organisers to cooperate with authorities, follow traffic advisories, and adhere to safety guidelines to ensure the immersion ceremony is conducted peacefully and without disruption.

The elaborate preparations underscore the city’s commitment to ensuring a safe and environmentally responsible conclusion to one of Odisha’s most significant annual festivals.
