Cyclonic Circulation Intensifies Over Bay of Bengal; Odisha Braces for Heavy Rainfall
Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal has intensified, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilting southwards with height.
The system is currently active over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal.
Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form on August 29, triggering widespread rainfall across Odisha.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple warnings for the state.
- Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
- Yellow Warning: Thunderstorms and rainfall forecast for 19 districts.

- August 29–30: Statewide alerts for thunderstorms and heavy showers.
- August 31: Extremely heavy rainfall likely in western Odisha districts.
Authorities have urged residents to remain alert, especially in flood‑prone and low‑lying areas, as the system is expected to intensify rainfall activity over the next few days.
