Odisha Unveils Major Veterinary & Farmer Welfare Schemes on World Veterinary Day
Bhubaneswar, April 25: Marking World Veterinary Day 2026, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a sweeping set of initiatives to strengthen animal healthcare, farmer welfare, and allied sectors in Odisha.
The CM inaugurated 76 veterinary hospitals and 4 animal welfare centres worth Rs 100 crore, while signing a Rs 177 crore MoU with six PSUs to establish 219 more hospitals and diagnostic labs.
Advanced facilities include a Rs 10 crore molecular lab at Phulnakhara and a Rs 6 crore upgrade to the state feed testing lab.
Celebrating the Golden Jubilee of OPOLFED, the government launched marketing centres for brown eggs and Aseel chicken, ensuring fair prices for poultry farmers.
Fisheries also received a boost with a Rs 50 crore fish landing centre at Kasia and upgrades to the Dhamra fish harbour.
The flagship Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana (Rs 1,423 crore) promises subsidies up to 70% for high-yielding cows, benefiting 15 lakh dairy farmers.
Complementary schemes include the Mukhyamantri Prani Kalyan Yojana (Rs 33 crore) for goshalas and feed support, and the Prani Sampada Samriddhi Yojana (Rs 1,031 crore) to aid 3.73 lakh poultry families.
Looking ahead, Odisha aims to become the 5th‑largest egg producer by 2047, integrating animal health with food safety and public health under the One Health approach.
To strengthen rural outreach, 2,000 A‑HELP workers will provide doorstep vaccination and healthcare.
Outstanding veterinarians, livestock rearers, and farmers were honoured during the event, underscoring Odisha’s vision of animal welfare as a pillar of sustainable development.
