140 Koraput Students Walk 10 km to Protest Hostel Conditions

Koraput, Odisha: In a striking protest against poor hostel conditions, over 140 students of Sanatemara Government Upgraded High School in Jharigam block walked nearly 10 km on Thursday morning after leaving their hostel.

Carrying school bags, the students demanded better food and living facilities.

Officials intervened midway, persuading them to stop at Dukalupada Government Upper Primary School, where they were served rice and dalma.

The hostel, opened in 2017 with a capacity of 200, currently houses around 140 students in three cramped classrooms, raising concerns about hygiene and safety.

The Block Education Officer and district administration have been informed, and an inquiry into hostel management and food supply is expected.

The incident highlights growing frustration among students over neglected infrastructure in government hostels.
