Odisha Scorches as Heatwave Pushes Mercury Past 40°C

Odisha is reeling under a severe heatwave as temperatures soared past 40°C in several districts.

Jharsuguda recorded the highest at 40.6°C, while Titlagarh touched 40°C. Hirakud, Sonepur, Angul, Bhadrak, and Bolangir also reported temperatures close to 39°C, underscoring the widespread impact across the state.

Western Odisha districts such as Nuapada, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, and Rourkela are expected to face even harsher conditions, with forecasts predicting 40–42°C in the coming days.

In contrast, coastal districts remain relatively cooler, creating a sharp weather divide.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow warning for Ganjam, Gajapati, and Puri, urging residents to take precautions against heat‑related illnesses.

The warning is valid for the next three days.

Relief may arrive from April 5, with light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) predicted in some districts. Until then, the heatwave remains the primary concern for Odisha’s residents.
