Odisha Mandates Fire Safety in All Government Building Projects

The Odisha government has announced a landmark directive making fire safety compliance mandatory for all government building projects.

Under the new rules, no construction will be approved unless fire safety measures are integrated at the planning stage.

Developers must secure clearance from the Odisha Fire Services Department before commencing work.

Key requirements include installation of fire‑fighting systems, alarm and detection mechanisms, clearly marked emergency exits, and provisions for easy access by fire service personnel.

Authorities will also audit existing government buildings—particularly hospitals, schools, and offices—to identify deficiencies and implement corrective measures.

The initiative aims to enhance public safety, reduce fire hazards, and ensure emergency preparedness across the state.
