Odisha Power Outages Amid Heatwave: Minister Blames Transformer Overloading

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has attributed the widespread power outages across the state to transformer overloading caused by surging electricity demand during the ongoing heatwave.

With temperatures soaring, the use of air conditioners and cooling devices has sharply increased, leading to transformer failures and prolonged disruptions in several districts.

Residents have expressed frustration over unannounced cuts, staging protests and accusing distribution companies of ignoring repeated complaints.

The minister assured that authorities are working to restore the supply quickly and emphasised efforts to ensure uninterrupted service.

However, the outages have drawn criticism, as they contradict Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s directive promising strict action against unannounced cuts and guaranteeing a 24‑hour supply during summer.

Public anger continues to mount, with many questioning whether power companies are adhering to government instructions.
