Odisha Govt Mulls Extension of Summer Vacation Amid Heatwave

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is reviewing the possibility of extending the ongoing summer vacation in schools due to the prevailing heatwave conditions across the state.

School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond stated that student health and safety remain the top priority.

Schools were originally scheduled to reopen on June 22, but the government may delay the reopening depending on weather conditions.

The monsoon is expected to arrive by mid‑June, though the El Niño effect could prolong the extreme heat.

Parents and teachers have urged authorities to prioritise student welfare, highlighting the risks of exposing children to soaring temperatures.

The government will announce its decision after a statewide review of weather conditions.
