Jajpur Man Killed in Wild Elephant Attack Near Home
Jajpur: A 60-year-old man was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Jagannath Rout, a resident of Bandhapalli village under Shalapada panchayat.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred when Rout stepped out of his house early in the morning and unexpectedly came face-to-face with a wild elephant near his residence.
The animal allegedly attacked him, causing fatal injuries. He died on the spot.
Local residents informed forest officials shortly after the incident.
Preliminary reports suggest that the elephant had strayed from a nearby forest area in search of food before entering the village.
Upon receiving information, officials from the Forest Department reached the village, recovered the body, and sent it to Badachana Community Health Centre for post-mortem examination.
The incident has once again highlighted the persistent issue of human-elephant conflict in several parts of Odisha, where elephants frequently enter human settlements in search of food and water.
