Western Odisha Celebrates Sambalpuri Din with Cultural Pride

Western Odisha came alive on August 1 as communities across nine districts celebrated Sambalpuri Din with traditional fervour.

The day honours Guru Satya Narayan Bohidar, credited with pioneering the preservation of the Sambalpuri language through his seminal works, including Sambalpuri Bhasakosh.

Residents marked the occasion by donning Sambalpuri handloom attire, preparing regional delicacies, and hosting cultural programs that showcased folk dance, music, and linguistic heritage.

Political leaders extended greetings, underscoring the cultural significance of the day.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described Sambalpuri language and art forms as “symbols of Odisha’s pride and identity,” while opposition leader Naveen Patnaik paid tribute to Bohidar’s legacy.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP leader Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo also conveyed messages of unity and pride.

Sambalpuri Din continues to serve as a reminder of Odisha’s rich cultural diversity and the enduring legacy of Guru Bohidar in safeguarding regional identity.
