Odisha Govt Issues New Rules for Disability Marriage Incentive

The Odisha government has announced detailed rules for the Rs 2.5 lakh marriage incentive scheme aimed at supporting couples where one partner is differently-abled.

Under the guidelines, the groom must be at least 21 years old and the bride 18, with an upper age limit of 60 years.

At least one spouse must be a resident of Odisha, and the marriage must be dowry‑free.

Applications must be submitted online within one year of marriage at ssepd.gov.in, along with Aadhaar, disability certificate, marriage registration, residence proof, age proof, photos, and a dowry‑free declaration.

Officials will conduct physical verification of the couple’s residence and documents.

Fraudulent claims may lead to imprisonment up to two years or fines up to Rs 1 lakh.

If divorce occurs within five years, the incentive must be returned.

The scheme is designed to encourage dowry‑free marriages and provide financial support to differently‑abled individuals, promoting social inclusion and dignity.
