Harichandan Urges 100‑Year Vision for Odisha Infrastructure
Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has called for a 100‑year vision in infrastructure development, stressing durability, safety, and disaster resilience.
Speaking at the valedictory session of a national workshop on “Building Future Bharat with NBCS‑2026”, organised by the Indian Buildings Congress (IBC) Odisha Chapter and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Harichandan urged policymakers and engineers to prioritise long‑term sustainability.
The Minister highlighted the need for structural audits of buildings older than 10 years, while acknowledging the shortage of trained and licensed auditors.
He emphasised regular awareness and capacity‑building programs to ensure effective implementation of NBCS‑2026.
Key themes discussed at the workshop included construction and fire safety, disaster resilience, sustainable practices, and quality procurement systems.
Eminent experts such as NBCS Committee Chairman Vasudevan Suresh, former BIS Deputy Director General Sanjay Pant, and Director of Civil Engineering Arun Kumar S joined IBC Odisha State Chapter Chairman Bijay Chandra Tripathy, alongside engineers from government departments and institutions.
The workshop concluded with a strong call to build future‑ready, sustainable, and disaster‑resilient infrastructure for Odisha and India at large.
