Mahanadi Dispute Resolution Soon, Assures Chhattisgarh CM in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, during his two‑day visit to Odisha, assured that the long‑standing Mahanadi River water dispute will be resolved soon.
He highlighted that with BJP governments in both Odisha and Chhattisgarh, and the NDA at the Centre, complex inter‑state issues are being addressed more effectively.
The Chief Minister confirmed that both states have agreed to abide by the decision of the Central Water Commission (CWC), marking a significant step toward consensus.
The dispute, which has persisted for over a decade, revolves around reduced river flow during non‑monsoon months and upstream barrage constructions.
Sai’s visit also carries symbolic importance, as he will offer prayers at Puri’s Jagannath Temple for peace and prosperity in both states.
With mutual cooperation and central facilitation, a final resolution to the politically and ecologically sensitive issue appears imminent.
