Odisha Govt Suspends Jail Psychiatrist in Berhampur

The Health and Family Welfare Department has suspended Dr Susanta Kumar Panigrahi, a psychiatrist deployed at Berhampur Circle Jail, pending disciplinary proceedings.

According to the suspension order issued under the Odisha Civil Services (CC&A) Rules, 1962, Dr Panigrahi’s headquarters will remain at City Hospital, Berhampur, and he cannot leave without prior permission from the competent authority.

During the suspension period, he will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per Rule‑90 of the Odisha Service Code.

The action underscores the state government’s emphasis on accountability within health services, particularly in sensitive institutions such as correctional facilities.
