Odisha Governor Urges Globally Competitive Universities Rooted in Indian Values
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati has urged universities in the state to strive for global competitiveness while remaining rooted in Indian values.
Addressing a conference of Vice-Chancellors from public and private universities, the Governor emphasised the need for institutions to be technologically advanced, socially responsible, and culturally grounded.
He highlighted the role of universities as centres of knowledge, innovation, and leadership, stressing their importance in preparing students for global challenges and contributing to nation-building.
Linking his vision to Atmanirbhar Bharat, Dr Kambhampati said self-reliance must extend beyond economics to innovation, healthcare, energy, and education.
The Governor underscored the transformative potential of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes multidisciplinary learning, skill integration, digital education, and industry partnerships.
He also called for research into tribal traditions and preservation of indigenous knowledge, noting the importance of documenting Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi echoed the sentiment, describing education as the foundation of a progressive society.
He set Odisha’s target to become a developed state by 2036 under the Viksit Bharat vision.
The conference also featured initiatives such as Chancellor’s Cup debates, awards for short films on drug de-addiction, and youth leadership programs through NCC, Scouts & Guides, Indian Red Cross, and NSS.
