Odisha Government Bans Open Market LPG Sales to Curb Black Marketing
The Odisha government has announced a ban on the sale and refill of LPG cylinders in the open market, citing concerns over black marketing and inflated prices triggered by global supply disruptions.
Refilling of 5 kg cylinders has been completely stopped, and new rules mandate e‑KYC verification for all LPG transactions.
Only individuals with LPG connections registered in their own names will be eligible to obtain cylinders from authorised distributors.
Energy Minister Krushna Chandra Patra assured citizens that there is no shortage of LPG or petrol in the state, emphasising that domestic supply remains stable with adequate stocks to meet household demand.
The government is also accelerating the rollout of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in major urban areas to reduce dependence on cylinders and ensure long‑term energy security.
