Odisha Embarks on Massive Highway Expansion Drive
Odisha is set to witness a transformative push in road infrastructure with the inauguration of 49 National Highway projects worth Rs 1,721 crore.
In addition, foundation stones will soon be laid for 47 new projects valued at Rs 12,102 crore, marking a significant step toward modern connectivity across the state.
Union Minister Prithviraj Harichandan highlighted that the projects are progressing rapidly under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, with the Centre assuring continued funding support.
Currently, 30 projects are ongoing, 14 awaiting work orders, and 4 in the tendering stage.
Key projects include the Bhajanagar–Aska Road, Riamal Bypass, Brahmapur Bypass, Khariar Road ROB, Puri–Matiapada ROB, Nayagarh Bypass, bridges over the Baitarani and Tel rivers, and bypasses at Titlagarh, Nabarangpur, Jharasuguda, Rairangpur, and Dasapalla.
Officials flagged land acquisition, forest clearance, utility shifting, and inter‑departmental coordination as critical challenges.
Senior engineers and administrators have been tasked with ensuring timely execution, positioning Odisha as a leading state in highway development.
