Odisha Crime Branch IG Shefeen Ahamed K Passes Away at 50

Odisha Police has lost one of its most respected officers with the untimely demise of Inspector General of Police (Crime Branch) Shefeen Ahamed K. The 2003‑batch IPS officer of the Odisha cadre breathed his last at the age of 50 while undergoing cancer treatment in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

A native of Kerala and an engineering graduate from CET, Shefeen Ahamed K was the son of Habib, a former CITU leader.

Over his distinguished career, he served in multiple key positions including SP Jharsuguda, DIG South Western Range, IGP Home Guards, and IGP Human Rights Protection Cell.

Since July 2023, he has been leading the CID Crime Branch, where he was recognised for his pioneering work in cybercrime investigation.

His contributions earned him honours and medals, reflecting his dedication to modernising policing and strengthening investigative frameworks.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, senior officers, and the Odisha IPS Association expressed deep grief, describing his service as unforgettable.

The news of his passing has left a void in Odisha Police’s leadership, particularly in crime investigation and cyber security.

Funeral arrangements will be made by his family in Kerala.
