Odisha Starts Electoral Roll Revision; Voter Survey from Oct 26
Bhubaneswar: The Madhusudan Padhi-led State Election Commission (SEC), Odisha, has initiated preparations for the 2027 local body elections by announcing a statewide door-to-door voter verification and registration drive.
The exercise is aimed at ensuring accurate electoral rolls for the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Body polls.
According to the SEC, the voter survey will be conducted from October 26 to November 7, 2026, covering households across the state.
The initiative will focus on enrolling newly eligible voters while identifying and removing duplicate, deceased, and shifted electors from the voter database.
Speaking on the preparations, Madhusudan Padhi stated that voter data collection and digitisation will be carried out simultaneously to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the electoral process.
Political parties have also been directed to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) and submit their details to the concerned authorities by October 15, 2026.
The move is expected to enhance transparency and facilitate smoother voter roll revisions.
The Commission has fixed January 1, 2027, as the eligibility cut-off date for voter enrollment.
The draft electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on February 10, 2027, after which objections and corrections will be invited before the final voter list is released.
In a significant development, the SEC has confirmed the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for Urban Local Body elections.
District administrations have been instructed to ensure seamless implementation of all pre-poll activities and voter awareness initiatives.
The statewide voter survey marks the first major step in Odisha’s electoral roadmap for the 2027 local body elections, laying the foundation for a transparent, inclusive, and updated democratic process.
