SC Clears Ex-Minister Pratap Jena in Mahanga Case; BJD Hails Verdict as Victory of Justice

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision clearing former Odisha Minister Pratap Jena in the Mahanga double murder case, describing the verdict as a reaffirmation of justice and the rule of law.

Reacting to the judgment, the party said the apex court’s findings have brought clarity to a case that had remained a subject of political debate for years.

According to the BJD, the verdict demonstrates the importance of relying on evidence and constitutional processes rather than allegations and political narratives.

The ruling party reiterated its faith in the judiciary, stating that truth ultimately prevails through due legal process.

It emphasised that every citizen is entitled to a fair trial and impartial adjudication, regardless of political affiliations.

BJD leaders argued that the Supreme Court’s decision should put to rest speculation surrounding the former minister’s alleged involvement in the case.

The party also urged the public to respect judicial findings and avoid drawing conclusions based on political rhetoric.

The development is likely to have political significance in Odisha, as the Mahanga case had frequently surfaced in state-level political discourse.

With the apex court’s verdict now delivered, the focus is expected to shift toward the broader legal and political implications of the judgment.
