Odisha Extends Antyodaya Gruha Yojana Till 2029, Approves 2.91 Lakh More Houses
Bhubaneswar: In a major push towards housing for the underprivileged, the Odisha government has approved an additional 2,91,666 houses under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana (AGY) and extended the scheme’s implementation period until 2029.
The decision was announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi as part of the state’s commitment to ensuring housing for every eligible family.
The extension gives the scheme two additional years beyond its previous 2027 deadline, allowing authorities to cover more beneficiaries who were left out of existing housing programmes.
The state government has retained the scheme’s overall allocation at ₹7,550 crore.
Of this, nearly ₹3,500 crore, initially earmarked for housing repairs, has been redirected towards construction of new houses to expand coverage among eligible families.
The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department has been tasked with conducting a rapid survey to identify additional beneficiaries across the state.
The initiative primarily targets poor, homeless and vulnerable households that did not receive assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
In a significant relaxation of eligibility norms, families who previously received housing assistance of ₹48,500 or less will also be considered under the expanded scheme.
To accelerate construction, the government has enhanced incentives for beneficiaries.
Households completing construction within five months will receive ₹35,000, while those completing work within seven months will receive ₹20,000.
The incentives have been increased substantially from the earlier assistance levels.
The Antyodaya Gruha Yojana was launched with a target of providing nearly five lakh houses to economically weaker families excluded from central housing schemes.
The latest expansion is expected to help the state move closer to its goal of providing permanent housing to all eligible beneficiaries.
