IMD Issues Thunderstorm Alert for 15 Odisha Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning predicting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning across 15 districts of Odisha.
The alert, released at 10:10 am on August 31, 2026, covers Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Anugola, Debagada, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargada, Balangir, Subarnapur, and Nuapada.
Residents in these districts are advised to remain cautious and monitor weather conditions closely over the next three hours.
The IMD has urged people to take necessary safety measures to avoid risks associated with lightning and heavy showers.
This warning comes amid ongoing weather fluctuations in the state, with a low‑pressure area persisting over western Odisha and several districts already experiencing heavy rainfall.
Authorities have also announced school closures in Bargada due to the adverse weather conditions.
