Odisha CM Unveils ₹10 Crore School Grant, 45,000 Teacher Recruitment Drive
April 11: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a sweeping set of educational reforms during the centenary celebration of Chandrashekhar Government High School in Bodapalasa, Keonjhar.
The CM declared a Rs 3 crore grant for the school’s infrastructure and an additional Rs 7 crore under the Godavarish Adarsha Primary School scheme, bringing total support to Rs 10 crore.
He directed the district administration to allocate 7 acres of land for the school’s expansion.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to education, Majhi revealed that 20,000 teachers have already been recruited in the past 1.5 years, with the process underway to appoint 45,000 more teachers.
Additionally, 13,000 schematic teachers have been regularised.
For FY 2026–27, the state has earmarked Rs 31,997 crore for the School & Mass Education Department, accounting for 10.3% of the total budget.
Future plans include establishing one model primary school in every panchayat (work already started in 2,200 panchayats), upgrading 800 schools under the PM Shri scheme, and launching the Nipun Odisha Mission to strengthen basic literacy and numeracy.
Majhi emphasised that teachers are not just educators but mentors shaping the character and future of students, underscoring the government’s vision for holistic educational development.
