IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Odisha: Heat, Humidity & Thunderstorms Ahead

Bhubaneswar, April 12: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert across several districts of Odisha, warning of hot and humid conditions in coastal regions and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in interior areas.

Districts including Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Ganjam are expected to face intense humidity, while Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Nayagarh, and Gajapati may witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

The IMD forecast indicates dry weather till April 13, followed by intermittent thunderstorms between April 13 and 15.

From mid‑week, western Odisha districts such as Bargarh, Bolangir, and Sambalpur may experience heatwave‑like conditions.

Authorities have advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and remain cautious during thunderstorms due to risks of lightning and strong winds.
