Odisha Braces for Heavy Rain as IMD Issues Alerts Till August 10

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has witnessed 26% above-normal rainfall this monsoon season, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The department has forecast widespread rain across the state until August 10, with alerts issued for several districts.

An Orange Warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj district, anticipating heavy rainfall at one or two places.

Additionally, Yellow Warnings have been declared for 13 districts, including Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, and Mayurbhanj.

The IMD predicts scattered to widespread rainfall across Odisha, with heavy showers likely in south Odisha districts on August 7–8.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are expected in several areas.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Keonjhar.

Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas are advised to remain alert. Risks include waterlogging, reduced visibility, traffic disruptions, and temporary inconvenience due to storms.

The IMD has urged people to follow local weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall.
