Odisha Assembly Special Session Erupts in Protest Over Women’s Role in Democracy
Bhubaneswar, April 30: The Odisha Assembly’s one‑day Special Session convened under Article 174(1) of the Constitution witnessed chaos as Congress legislators disrupted proceedings from the very beginning.
Raising slogans near the Speaker’s podium, the opposition sought to corner the government over the Kendujhar issue, forcing repeated interventions.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi introduced a proposal to deliberate on women’s participation in democracy, stressing the importance of empowering women in political processes.
However, the Congress uproar overshadowed much of the discussion.
To ensure order, authorities deployed 30 platoons of police and enforced a three‑tier security ring around the Assembly.
Section 163 of BNSS was implemented in Lower PMG to prevent untoward incidents.
Ahead of the session, BJP legislators held a strategy meeting chaired by CM Majhi, emphasising the need to highlight women’s contributions to democratic governance.
