Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi Meets Amit Shah, Urges Tourism Push After Maoist-Free Declaration

Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi following Shah’s announcement that India is now “Maoist-free” as of March 31, 2026.

During the meeting, Majhi requested that the government officially highlight this achievement on its websites and tourism platforms to attract international visitors.

Majhi emphasised that districts like Nabarangpur and Malkangiri have long been avoided by foreign tourists due to their Maoist history.

Promoting the new status, he argued, could significantly boost tourism and the local economy.

The MP also discussed broader development issues, including railway and highway connectivity, law and order, education, healthcare, and irrigation projects.

He particularly stressed the importance of the Tel Medium Irrigation Project for drought-prone Chandahandi and the Kolab Middle Project for Malkangiri, which could transform agriculture in the region.

Majhi extended an invitation to Amit Shah to visit Nabarangpur, noting that such a visit would accelerate development in tribal-dominated areas.

The meeting was described as positive, with Shah reportedly supportive of prioritising Odisha’s tribal regions for future growth.
