Low Pressure Over Bay of Bengal Triggers Heavy Rainfall Alerts in Odisha
A low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal–North Odisha coasts under the influence of a cyclonic circulation.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the system will intensify in the next two days, bringing widespread rainfall across Odisha.
An orange warning has been issued for Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Cuttack districts, where very heavy rainfall is expected today.
Sixteen other districts, including Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, and Boudh, are under a yellow warning for heavy rainfall.
The IMD has also cautioned of gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph during showers.
Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea until July 27 due to rough conditions.
esidents are urged to remain alert against waterlogging, lightning, and strong winds, while farmers and those in low‑lying areas should take precautions against water accumulation.
