Kendrapara Forest Officials Seize 9 Kg Venison, Two Arrested

Kendrapara (Odisha): Forest officials in Kendrapara district arrested two individuals after seizing nearly 9 kilograms of venison during a raid in the Sasanpeta forest area under the Gahirmatha range.

Acting on a tip‑off, personnel recovered nylon nets allegedly used to trap wild animals.

Preliminary investigation suggests the duo had set traps targeting deer or wild boar, and evidence points to the killing of a spotted deer.

Both accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Officials confirmed that further inquiry is underway to determine the extent of poaching activities in the region.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges in curbing illegal hunting in Odisha’s forest belts, where venison trade continues to pose a threat to biodiversity.
