Deep Depression Makes Landfall Near Kalingapatnam, Heavy Rains Lash Andhra–Odisha Coast
A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal began making landfall near Kalingapatnam on Thursday, bringing heavy rains and strong winds to the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is moving northwest at around 5 kmph, with its centre located near 18.2°N, 83.9°E.
It lies approximately 30 km west-southwest of Kalingapatnam, 80 km northeast of Visakhapatnam, and 170 km southwest of Gopalpur.
The landfall process has already commenced and is expected to continue for about two more hours.
Meteorologists predict the system will retain its deep depression intensity for nearly 12 hours before curving north-northwestwards and gradually weakening over the next 24 hours.
Authorities have issued heavy rainfall warnings for coastal districts, urging residents to remain vigilant and follow advisories from the IMD and state disaster management agencies.
