IMD Issues Red Alert for Nabarangapur, Heavy Rainfall Likely Across Odisha
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Nabarangapur district, warning of extremely heavy rainfall as a deep depression continues to affect Odisha.
Six districts — Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, and Malkangiri — are under Orange Warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Additionally, nine districts including Balasore, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamal, and Rayagada are under a Yellow Warning for heavy showers.
The deep depression, which crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kalingapatnam late on September 23, brought winds of 55–65 kmph, gusting up to 75 kmph.
It is expected to maintain intensity for about 12 hours before gradually weakening.
Southern Odisha is already witnessing intense rainfall, while coastal and western regions are also reporting showers.
The IMD has advised residents in Red and Orange alert zones to remain cautious as normal life may be disrupted.
